Letter from Supt. Tompkins regarding students returning to school Monday Feb 4th

March 2, 2019

Dear McKenzie Community,

We hope this message finds you warm and safe! I know there are many crews still working in our area to restore electricity and phone connections to all homes in the McKenzie Valley. Currently, the school’s power has been restored and our maintenance staff has been working to mitigate hazards and repair minor damage that the campus sustained during the storm.

We plan to resume classes as usual this Monday, March 4th. Depending on your own situation/location, use your best discretion whether or not your student attends school. If you cannot make it in, call in later in the day to excuse your student’s absence if you can. The area is still dealing with phone outages to both landline and cellular phones. Lane County Emergency Management has ensured we have emergency communications in place in case phone service is not able to be maintained.

This storm has affected many in our community, staff and students alike. Many of us have spent the last week digging out and cleaning up. It has been a trying time for many but has brought out some of the best qualities in all of us. Even though not all is back to normal, we are excited to return to the normal routine of teaching and learning with a renewed passion for what we do and a bolstered sense of pride in our wonderful community.

Sincerely,

Lane Tompkins

Superintendent/Principal
